Our Summer Workshops are designed for keen potters who want to develop their making in small and focused groups.

CLAY at The Farnham Pottery are always looking for the opportunity to enrich our communities making and have designed a programme that we hope tickles curiosity and evokes creative exploration. We are exited to announce the 2026 line up of specially selected masterclasses and focused weekend workshops.

 

The Workshops are designed for a range of experience, the skill levels are indicated on each workshop and are set to ensure all students will benefit from the course. If you have any questions if a masterclass is correct for your skill level please do email us and we can advise you.

Beginners Wheel Workshops

Explore the wheel with expert guidance. This two day workshop (10am - 4pm each day) will cover wedging, centering, pulling up and refining works. The ambition is to make your own tableware set. We will cover making mugs, bowls and plates and jugs.

Outcome of the class is dependent on the students ability. its a wheel experience - not a promise of works.

Improvers Throwing Workshops

This 2 day workshop aims to take experienced throwers back to basics, encouraging you to be purposeful and considered at every stage of making, resulting in a more confident and refined making practice.

​

​We will explore production throwing techniques, throwing big and surface design and turning. Principles of glaze application will also be explored.

 

A GOOD GRASP OF THROWING REQUIRED.

Handbuilding & Surface Design

Workshops

Exploring the essential techniques of handbuilding this workshop has a focus on freedom of expression and playful exploration and your relationship with clay, you'll dive into a variety of forms and surface treatments.

 

This 2 day (10am - 4pm)  course highlights the incredible versatility of clay in all its forms—liquid, solid, stained, natural, carved, and coiled. Get ready to leave with a fantastic completed project and a treasure trove of techniques and ideas to inspire future creations!

Oxford Kilns - FAST FIRING

July 10th-12th / 13th-15th

Guided by Dr. Robin Wilson, founder of Oxford Kilns, and ceramic artist and researcher Ekta Bagri. The Three Day fast firing is a raw and active wood firing adventure.

​

Students will need to bring a box of bisque work ready to fire at 1260 degrees. The challenge is to keep the kiln running smoothly in a small team over 12 hours -  and reap the benefits.

​

Camping is optional but encouraged, food and drinks provided.

Oxford Kilns - ANAGAMA FIRING

July 10th - 15th

This is a rare and fantastic opportunity to fire your own work in a traditional Japanese Anagama kiln or a Fast-Fire wood kiln.

​

Lead by Oxford Kilns this 5 day wood firing is an exhilarating and unique experience – producing effects that cannot be achieved in a standard electric kiln. It is physically intense at times, but incredibly rewarding.

Linda Bloomfield on Glazing

August 1st-2nd

Linda's teaching focuses on the foundational chemistry, empowering you to troubleshoot and experiment confidently with glaze. in this workshop Students will have the chance to create their own base glaze and personalise it with a selection of colours using different oxides.

 

Whether you're looking to enhance your technical knowledge or just starting your ceramics journey, this is a rare opportunity to learn from a leading figure in the field.
