Linda will lead participants through the key elements of stoneware glazes, sharing how various materials affect texture, surface quality, and. With practical demonstrations and hands-on activities, attendees will have the chance to create their own base glaze and personalize it with a selection of colors using different coloring oxides. Whether you're looking to enhance technical skills or starting your ceramics journey, this is a rare opportunity to learn from a leading figure in the field.

Course

 

This workshop offers a unique opportunity to learn from a leading expert whose insights have ceramic art and glaze education worldwide. Linda's teaching focuses on the foundational chemistry, empowering you to troubleshoot and experiment confidently.

 

Day 1

 

- Gain knowledge of health and safety guidelines for safe handling of glaze material

- Understand materials and how to read a glaze recipe

- Learn to combine materials for a base glaze, practicing accurate measuring, mixing, sieving for consistency.

- Create unique glaze recipes by adding coloring oxides to base glaze for test samples.

 

Your test tiles will be kiln-fired overnight, allowing group discussions on the outcomes the next day.

Day 2

 

- Delve into the science behind glazes.

- Explore roles and chemical interactions that affect surface finishes post-firing.

- Analyze test tile outcomes from Day 1 as a group to understand your experiments.
