HEWN FORMS (sustainable craftsmanship)

January 31, 2018

Come and Celebrate Craftsmanship at The Farnham Pottery, meet two inspiring local artists working in Green Wood and Stone.

All are welcome to ‘Meet the Artists’ on Thursday 22 February between 6 and 8pm with Mervyn Mewis giving a talk on his work and inspirations at 7pm.

Explore their worlds:

A master of working in green or unseasoned wood - woodworker in traditional techniques, furniture maker, acclaimed teacher, instrument maker, composer and performer - a truly talented all round craftsperson.

Can be found doing repairs to Westminster Abbey but here showing his own private work. An engaging artist with a love for stone that is infectious.

An inspiring Workshop with Mervyn Mewis - An Introduction to Green Wood Working - 10 March 2018

Mervyn will have a select group of just 7 participants in his Workshop on Saturday 10 March at The Farnham Pottery. He will provide insights into working in green (unseasoned) wood using traditional techniques. Mervyn will describe his processes, starting in the woods he works to protect, and then on to demonstrate how he builds his exquisite furniture from locally-sourced timbers.

Participants will be introduced to working with the drawhorse and drawknife, and will fashion timber items in the Workshop. There is a strong "hands on" component to the day. All materials and equipment will be provided. No previous experience is necessary, a desire to be involved, and a reasonable hand-eye co-ordination is all that is needed.

For those that get the "green wood bug" and want to make more advanced items - a three legged stool for example - Mervyn will be on hand to run further workshops at The Pottery during the year.

The one day workshop is £95 including all materials and a light lunch. To book email info@thefarnhampottery.co.uk or ring Guy on 07879 667000
